Um yes, if by keep it clean you mean making sure the pool toys are put away after each use, and swim towels laundered, the. Yes it is your job. What is it you're not getting? A nanny's job is to care for the children and to maintain their possessions and areas, which could mean playroom, bedroom, backyard, or even the family pool. She's not taking advantage of you, she's expecting you to do your job.

What's ridiculous is that you would even make the comparison between a car and a pool. And how gross are you that you are ok with driving around in a car full of trash. MB is not taking advantage, she is obviously just having to micromanage because you were unable to take the initiative to keep an area you use clean of your own accord. Not one person, especially not the other nannies, has sided with you on this. And I doubt anyone will.

As stated my job is to be a nanny to the boys, laundry and pick up areas WITHIN the household. Never once mentioned that I would be required to clean out cars or agreed to upon hiring.

I can't believe you had the gall to post this...I normally cringe when I see the word entitled, but here, I think it is totally appropriate. You use the car as part of caring for your charges, clean up after yourself (better yet, have the school aged children clean up after themselves). Were I your MB, and you made any mention of having the housekeeper clean out the car, you would almost certainly be looking for a new job. Stop being so lazy and do your job, next you will be posting about how affronted you were when MB asked you to clean up your dishes after lunch. Way to make the rest of us look bad.

+1 I'm an earlier poster who said its the nanny's job to keep the nanny car clean, and I am in fact a nanny. There's a lot of things you could argue is not a nanny's job, but cleaning after yourself and the kids in kid areas is most certainly your job.

How hard is it to clean a minivan? Well if you are expecting crumbs to be vacuumed and sticky juice spills all over the dashes, seats, cup holders etc to be cleaned then it won't be the easiest of jobs. And that is considered heavy cleaning and something I'm unwilling to do. As I stated I did pick up trash but I still feel like that shouldn't of been expected of me either.

If it's a nanny car, it's your responsibility to keep it clean.

It is unfortunate it wasn't cleaned out thoroughly before you began using it, but those are the breaks.

If the kids are old enough to clean up after themselves, you can all work together to get the trash out etc. Older children will love crawling between the seats with a handvac too. No need to make a big fuss, just get the job done.

If the minivan is the nanny car, how is cleaning it not your responsibility? Your job is to maintain kid areas, well that IS a kid area. It's not as if she asked you to clean her personal car. I don't understand your outrage.

I say gather up the kids and you guide them in cleaning out. Don't do it MB also is trying to pull this but not to this extreme and I'm going to have to correct her AFTER I receive my check.....

How hard is it to clean out a car? Take a garbage bag and a basket out to the car. Put all trash in the garbage bag, and everything else in the basket. Throw the garbage bag out, then bring the basket in and put all that stuff away. 10 minutes, TOPS.

You just said the minivan IS the nanny car. Thus, wouldn't it be the nanny's responsibility to keep it clean? When I pay a nanny the higher end of the pay scale, I expect them to be willing to go above and beyond every once in a while. You said she may expect this of you every few months. Really? Four times a year you can't take 10 minutes out of your day? I wouldn't fire you for your unwillingness to do this, but for your attitude. You're the nanny - teach the kids to take their trash out of the car if you don't want to keep the nannyvan clean yourself.

I'm really pissed off and seriously offended. I am NOT your maid, I am NOT required to do any household work. My position was to be a NANNY and organize areas that the kids use, INSIDE your home. I really wanted to speak up about this, she left me a list of errands.. including cleaning out the minivan. The minivan is the nanny car but it was junky BEFORE I started 3 months ago and never cleaned out. Should this be apart of her expectations of me? I do make $20/hour but I still think it is out of her place to expect me to clean out a car, seriously!? She has a housekeeper so I don't do any major house work except loading dishwasher and kids laundry. I can see if she told me to take the car to get cleaned out by a company that does this but she asked ME to do it.

I did pick up the trash, but I feel like if I don't speak up this is something she will expect of me to do every few months. I am NOT okay with cleaning out your car sorry. Her kids are school aged and old enough to take their trash out of the car when they are done with it.
