Yes, I am a nanny and have a medical consent form but I also have a charge with some significant health concerns. The parents travel quite often so it was essential for us to have this in place.

I'm a nanny and I've never had a medical consent form.

I have taken children to the hospital a couple of times and it was never an issue, they still gave the children the care they needed (emergency or otherwise).

My sitter can take my child to the ER and get her stitches if I cant get there. However, if a choice needs to be made that could affect my child life in the future thats my decision to make.

And if the choice had to be made right away? The child needed a risky but life saving surgery and I can't get in contact with you right away?! Then what would you propose?

My bosses travel internationally, what happens if you are not available? Why wouldn't you trust your nanny? You put your child in her CARE.

For certain procedures you absolutely do need parental consent. And you can draft your own consent form saying that in case I a medical emergency in your absence, (nanny name) may make medical decisions on your behalf.

I have employed nannies for over 10 years and I have never heard of this form. Where do I get it? Don't grandparents or other family members have legal consent in medical emergencies?

PT nanny here. Even I have one. And mb drafted it before I even started. She's in the medical field of course so understands the need for one "just in case"

Don't allow them the option of not giving you one. That'd be irresponsible.

Just wondering that if I, the nanny should ask MB for a medical consent form. I had a bad experience years back when I took a charge to the emergency room for a dog bite. They couldn't really treat him (they did basics- blood pressure, gave him gauze to hold on wound) without parents consent. They wouldn't stitch or medicate him. I couldn't find the parents for a while.

At my last job MB, created (she's a lawyer a medical consent form for me. She also gave her parents one.

I want one for this job, because the parents leave town for a few days pretty often. But they say the grandparents are around in case of emergency. Do they have the same legal consent as parents in emergency? I watch the baby overnight, what happens if I can't get hold of grandparents in case of emergency?

Does anyone know what the laws are?
