Just ask.

9/10 people won't care about this. I once had to ask one of my most uptight families about this for a 2 week period while my machine waited to be fixed and they were perfectly fine with it.

Ok, thanks everyone! Normally I do my laundry in the coin machines at my apt but like I said, they were unavailable and I'm working late tonight and tomorrow. Will ask them if it's okay!

Haha. I have done my laundry at my employers house and they never found out.

I never asked, just did laundry here and there-----not a lot, but I'd say 8 times while with them-which was a year and a half.

Just do it if they're not home or don't have cams that you know of!

Otherwise ask Or go to a coin machine.

MB here, and I agree it is fine as long as you ask. Can't imagine any MB getting upset over this one request.

It all depends on how long you have worked for this family and how much you are being paid.

If you just started working for them, I wouldn't ask. Nor would I ask if they were paying me a higher than average salary.
They may feel if they say YES this one time, then they will be opening up a can of worms because then you may start to make this a future habit.

If they are laid-back and you guys are close, then sure go ahead and ask.
Maybe offer a few dollars to cover the extra water.

Under these circumstances or otherwise in a pinch, no problem. You should ask, but unless the parents are nasty and selfish, they will be fine with it. That said, I would not be comfortable with my nanny doing her laundry at work on a regular basis, because I need her to spend the children's nap time on other tasks.

MB here - I would have absolutely zero problem w/ you doing some laundry at my house. I'd appreciate you asking since it shows a nice level of awareness or consideration, but any MB who would begrudge something like this would be completely ridiculous in my opinion.

I would want my nanny to assume that of course it would be totally fine and I wouldn't mind.

Doing your laundry all the time at my house? That's different. But an occasional load (like in this circumstance) or throwing some things in when you're doing the kids stuff? Totally totally fine.

Sorry, but I'd think it's really weird. I wouldn't ask to do that, and wouldn't want to be asked if someone else could do that at my house. This is what laundromats are for.

My employers would be fine with this as long as I asked first.

+1

But please ask first.

I don't think it's weird. I do a lot of laundry at work. My boss doesn't care.

I am going out of town on Friday immediately after work and will be gone all weekend. My apartment complex's washing machines were all taken last night and I won't have time tonight or tomorrow night to run laundry.

How weird/rude/inappropriate would it be if I asked my employers to run a load of laundry at their house on Friday while the baby is napping?
