I am a 24hr Nanny in NY and I make 500 a day. I work 5/24. It's really hard work, and yes you dedicate your life to the job. It is definitely not for everyone. If you want to have a life, this is not for you. The weekend 24hr nanny makes 600 a day, because apparently weekend nannies are harder to find. They do not provide us with weekend/weekday housing.

Good nannies can earn much more than 15/hr.

9:10, sounds like your friend has a sweet deal (as long as she can actually enjoy her weekends). It sounds like you are getting really screwed. I can't imagine working all that time for just 91K a year. I hope they are generous in other aspects!

Legally, 16 hours should be paid at OT rates. To hell with "sleeping" hours because you are on duty and sbould be paid accordingly.

I work around 108 hours a week, wake frequently with toddler and am responsible for her entire care and upbringing. I make $91K or $350 a 24hr period and it completely not worth it! I have given up my personal life. Spend my weekends catching up on sleep, errands, and doctors appointments. I miss speaking to adults. I do not get my weekend apartment paid for either. I feel entirely deeply underpaid because I feel as a top nanny, I could make the same working a 60hr week.

My nanny friend is a 24hr/5 nanny to a famous NY billionaire family and she makes around $120k and gets a private apartment in the same Park Avenue building as her bosses. She stays there on weekends. But it's hers to keep her stuff during the week too. She got a $20k Christmas bonus too. But she feels underpaid too. She says she knows nannies that make $150k...so there!

Usually it is not worth the extra money to be a 24 hour nanny. It sucks, and you don't get great pay for the nighttime hours since generally you are expecting to be asleep. It is much better to find a good paying position for 60-70 hours a week instead, and still get most of your nights off.

I don't think you can fake being a top nanny. You either have it, or you don't.

Yeah.. I think a rare few nannies make the amount OP mentioned.. Like super nanny, celebrity nannies, etc. Not the average nanny. if that was the case most people would skip college and head on down to the childcare agency.

Celebrity nannies earn $150,000.+, easy.

To be honest, I don't think a job like that is worth it just for the money. You could easily find a job in NYC or Boston working normal hours (up to 60) that pays in the $50-$60k/year range.

I agree - would love to hear from someone who's seen jobs like that paying more. I know of some internationally that do pay in the 120K-180K range, but havent seen that in the States.

I make between 45-55K a year as a nanny (depending on which year we're talking about) and have evenings and weekends free! Can't imagine giving up all that personal time for a relatively moderate increase.

I have seen a few posts lately about 24hr nannies, those who work around the clock usually from Monday morning to Friday night (then the weekend 24hr nanny comes). Most of these jobs seem to be in NYC. Just wondering if anyone knows how much a 24hr nanny makes? Are there any agencies who place 24hr nannies. I am assuming only the very wealthy can afford the luxury of 24 care. What is the salary that that makes giving up most of your life for your job? If a normal NYC hourly wage is $20-25hr, with overtime does a 24hr nanny earn $120-180,000 a year? Does the employer also pay for the 2 day weekend accommodation? It's silly if nanny rents expensive apartment only for 2 days a week.

Considering being a 24hr for a year, just to save a buttload $$$!
