OP, if she just quit w/out any notice, then it would be a very safe bet that she isn't happy w/your family and there was some type of issue going on that she didn't think could be resolved.
As a nanny, I have had many jobs where I HATED waking up every day and cried in my car driving home. I eventually reached a point where I just couldn't take it anymore and just quit on the spot.

However if she gave at least a 2-wk notice, then hopefully in that short time you can find someone good.
Try Care.com and/or sittercity.com of if you can afford it, an agency would be an even better idea.

There are many good and competent nannies out there.
I hope you can snag yourself one.

If it's any consolation, the nanny job search is similarly frustrating and time consuming. I feel your pain.

I know it's a pain OP. It's a painful process for us nannies when we have to seek new employment. Good luck to you and I hope you will find the right person without to much time or drudgery. FWIW, I took a break from nannying to try something different (retail sales) and HATED it! Why? I missed being with children during the day. Anyway, once again, good luck to you.

This is OP. She is taking a job in a field she has been studying while being our nanny. I am not mad at her for leaving - I'm sad for us and for our baby. We really liked her. And I'm stressed about finding another nanny. It wasn't an easy process the first time.

Oh shut up. That doesn't help OP. Believe it or not, you actually have no idea whether this nanny was telling the truth, but it just didn't occur to you to shut your mouth did it?
