Well maybe if a single parent has no male role models for their child.

I personally wouldn't hire a male. Nothing personal, I'm just not comfortable doing so. (and please people, hold the debate for someone who cares. My opinion wont change.)

I would say children, regardless of their gender, need positive role models in general. I don't believe that a person's gender is what should be modeled for a child, rather their integrity, kindness, compassion, etc....these are not traits assigned to one gender. I would love to see more "mannies", not because children need more male role models, but because children need to learn that their gender does not determine what life (career) path are able to take!

what the PP said. Also in our society its usually (not always!) Dads that work full time/ don't get custody, where as mothers tend to be the parent that works part time/ less hours and who ends up as a single parent of children. Therefore its assumed (not always correctly) that most children already have a good female role and that additional male role models are needed/ good.

I'm a male nanny. Been on this board for years.

Anyway...

When I talk about my job (online or is person) people are usually supportive and say. I'd hire you if I had boys because boys need positive male role models.

Don't girls need positive male role models as well?
