Are there really family/nanny relationships that are this petty? I can't imagine charging for the extra 15 min at the end of the week for db to write my check. Are you also the type of nanny who gets fed up when parents want to talk after they get home. I can't imagine. In my relationship it's give and take...no one judges for the occasional minutes late and mb and db are really flexible with me when I need to come in a few min late or leave a few min early.

Just tell him you have to leave on time on Fridays and ask if he can enter your hours 30 minutes earlier and cut you a check so you can leave on time.

I don't think its about the money. I think its about getting to leave on time! PP have offered you some suggestions either ask for the check to be done thursday night before you leave, or send DB a text/ email/ phone call during the day and ask for the cheque to be ready to go at your finish time.

I am a nanny too and I really love my job. However when you work 60 hours a week it can feel like you spent more time at work than away from it. If my friends are meeting for dinner at 6pm I already miss the first hour and a half (I don't finish till 7pm plus half an hours transport time), if my bosses are late and I miss a bus/ train it can mean I am very late!

If its at the end of the week, its more than likely OT and if OP makes more that the $12-$16/hour you assume, then its more than just a petty $3 she's owed. Him paying her for that time would at least show he's respectful of her time. It's the exact same thing as a parent routinely showing up late every Friday and expecting it to be for free.

I suspect its that you want to leave at 5 on Friday so tell him this. Don't play games asking for something else that is silly and will make you look petty.

Many people get paid AFTER they have worked the hours. It might not have anything to do with weekly/bi-weekly, but if you work hours in week 1, then on week 2 (whatever day is your payday) you get your check for week 1 hours. Some people get checks on Friday for the previous week. Some once they get direct deposit, it will go through on Wednesdays instead. This is very common. That is one reason why people hate starting new positions, because it can take up to 2-3 weeks to get your first paycheck, depending on if you are paid weekly or bi-weekly.

Why is he putting her hours into Breedlove and then writing a check? I don't think that's what OP was saying, PP, because it makes no sense (my employers use Breedlove).

OP, I think you should let it go. If what you're saying is that the 20 minutes between when you leave and when your check is authorized online is a huge problem (you need to pick up groceries right after work or something), ask him if he can make sure it's been inputted before you leave. You can't charge extra for that, most people are paid on a two-week delay ANYWAY.

No people. He is showing up, entering the hours in the pay roll system, THEN writing OP her check. She is being expected to wait around the extra 15-20 minutes waiting for her check. OP I'd ask him to start entering your hours Thursday night, so you can leave on time, or ask him to compensate you or come home earlier so that you leave, check in hand when you are off the clock. This is a perfectly reasonable request. I ask my employers to allow for as much of a window as they feel they need for handover and rundown. If they show up right on the dot, and hold me 15 minutes to debrief, I expect to be paid. He might as well be showing up 20 minutes late and not paying you.

Is this because he doesn't get home until you're supposed to leave? If so, I suggest picking up your check on Monday if you don't want to wait around. There's no law that says you have to get paid the day you work the hours.

Uh... let me get this straight. So he enters your hours 15-20 minutes after you're off work, but presumably you get paid on a bi-weekly schedule so your paycheck still comes on time? And he doesn't ask you to hang around for 15-20 minutes while he does it, right, you're allowed to leave?

Yes, can you hand him your weekly hours on Thur, or right after you arrive Friday morning, and tell him you'll need to leave by 5, or whatever.

I'll keep it short and sweet. DB pays me every Friday. He goes into his office, enters my hours into Breedlove, and writes me a check. However he usually doesn't get done doing this until 15-20 minutes after I'm done working. Do I say something?
