Many daycares charge at or below $300 per week. When you're working 45 hours at $18+ an hour, with health insurance, then yeah it makes perfect since why women do this. It's a sad reality, but they have to survive and you can't do that from staying at home with your kid all day.

I couldn't do it. I don't judge those that do, but I can't imagine leaving my kid to care for someone else's kid. If I were doing something unrelated, then sure, but it doesn't make sense as a nanny.

Oh goodness, slave poster again??

I leave my son with my mom to work as a nanny and don't feel guilty at all about it. I used to be a teacher and had the opportunity to work as a nanny with a better salary, benefits, etc and took it. I don't feel a sense of servitude or any of that crap.

We all wish we could bring our child to work and still get paid the same amount, but we can't. This is the reason there's a market for nannies in the first place.

Yes there are women that leave their children "behind" but they come from poor countries and you are not familiar with their situation. They usually work their "behind" off here so they can send money to said children so they can go to school, university, even buy food. So these moms are trying to give their kids a better life. Can you blame them?

If I found a high paying job then I would leave my kids in someone else's care. The extra pay would be worth it. If I had any other type of job then I would have to leave them anyways, so I don't see it as an issue. If I felt so strongly that I wouldn't leave them elsewhere, then I would stay home with them myself. Either you need the money to survive and you do what you need to (aka work), or you stay with your kids at home and raise them. Where I am working makes no difference in the end, but a high paying job certainly makes it more worth it. Since I love kids, I would rather earn a good pay while still getting to spend my days with children, than spending my days working in an office and not getting to see and be with ANY kids throughout the day.

I feel bad for you because their are employers who are open to letting you bring your kids with you, but certain nannies who abuse it and ruin it for others. Two years ago we tried this out, however our nanny's child was like running a daycare. She spilled things and had "accidents" on our carpet, broke vases and other glass items that she nor our girl's were allowed to play with,took and broke my girl's toys and nanny dismissed it as "sharing" issues with my kids, nanny said she wouldn't "nap without her",so nanny justified having to have a personal nap with her in our guest bedroom while she locked my older girls out to "PLAY", heard from friends in our neighborhood thay she would leave my baby daughter locked in stroller at park while she pushed her own daughter in swing, just to name a few. i thought it would be a great fit for my daughters, but begin to reaize they did not like her or bond with her and the main reason was her favoritism to her daughter. i really wanted to help her out because she was a single mom, but she never tried to help the situaton and no matter how much we tried, she blamed our girls, even after her daughter left a huge scratch on my daughter's face. Per her, my take away, you can't treat your own children and your charges fairly, and i paid her what I would a nanny bringing no kids...but feel after my experience it is worth a salary recalculation to nanny share level.

Thanks for your reply. Prior to this position I was a customer service rep in an office so of course I did not bring my son. However it was different since I was leaving him to care for other kids in a sense. I'm a first time mom by the way so this is new to me

My nanny has one in preschool, and one goes to her cousin's house where she has another child the same age. She does drop off at preschool in the morning, and then either her husband or her mother does pick-up in the afternoon. I'm not sure it would be worth is to her if she had to pay for daycare for two kids.

She tried bringing the older one once, but she was overwhelmed. As a MB, I worried about how she would feel about leaving her kids to care for mine, but she needs a job, and this is what she does. If she was a house cleaner or a bank teller, she'd still have to find care for her kids.

If you have child(ren) that aren't school aged do you bring them to work with you? If not, what are your child care arrangements? How do you feel if you can't bring your child to work but your caring for other kids. I currently bring my son but he's 7 months and the kids are school aged. Between household duties and after school activities it's becoming a lot to handle. I'm thinking of putting my son in care pt but I feel guilty!
