Sorry OP but you are wrong. Your PT babysitter acted as a professional and put her FT nanny position first, which is commendable. I understand you are frustrated, but it's not her problem that your children have lice. It's also really sad that she found out from your child and not you. I agree with most of the PP's here.

Agree with all the PPs - she did the right thing and you're overreacting.

You guys are over reacting. I picked up a former pt (one night a week) charge at day camp once because they dicovered he had lice after mom left (single mom) dropped him off and go ton a plane for a mtg in another city. I picked him up, called the mom, and started the laundry. My ft kids did not get lice and pt mom paid me a hefty bonus for the trouble. It is really not that big a deal.

instead of focusing on how angry you are at the babysitter, i think you should direct your energies towards finding someone to babysit tonight.

I understand your frustration, but as a sitter and someone who as a kid had lice several times, I would be wary myself. You just did the treatment...can you not see why she would feel uncomfortable?

Can't you get anyone else? Sounds like the nanny wants to protect her other charge. If the tables were turned, you'd hope she'd do the same for you. Ask your friends and return the favor soon.

She makes her living with another nannying job and has a realistic concern about how working for you when your children have lice would affect her job and her ability to support herself. Would you feel differently if your child was very ill with the flu and you expected the babysitter to come over?

She's your sitter, not your professional nanny. Why would you expect her to put the child she cares for daily after the needs of you and your children? If anyone was unprofessional it was you not letting her know what was going on, and giving her the chance to decide if she is comfortable. If I showed up to work for you and you gave no heads up about the lice, you wouldn't have to fire me, I'd quit.

So here's the deal. During the summer, my children contracted lice from somewhere. It was a hassle and I hated having to deal with it.

This week, I noticed they had it again. We did everything to get rid of them. I took them in for a treatment, and had my housekeeper come in for extra hours to deep clean the house. We've gotten rid of them. The problem? We go to church with our sitter and my youngest told her about the lice ordeal. She called me last night to tell me she didn't feel comfortable coming in. She said that she didnt want to give anything to the boy she nannies for full time. That leaves me in a terrible bind. She knew for a long time that I needed her today. I think it's severely unprofessional for her to cancel on me like this, especially since I spent last week cleaning and getting treatments.

What would you do?
