Former nanny here. I would pass this job over because of the lack of paid sick days, and only 2 paid federal holidays. I received all federal holidays (off and paid) in each and every nanny job I had.

The pay is either just okay, if that is the "average" rate (i.e., 50*16), or is really good if 16/hour is the base rate, with OT for the last 10 hours.

I'm used to making 850-1000/week, so obviously the closer I could get to the high end of that, the better.

You definitely need to pay more holidays, though.

If there are so many wonderful applicants, why the posting for "where are you?"? Your nonsense is mere fantasy, apparently.

It's 47.5 hours. Assuming $16 is the base rate, OP can absolutely find many nannies looking for this job.

I'd consider a job like that.
The two things I would want to negotiate: OP offers no sick days paid, and I don't like that the nanny has to work a full year before getting federal holidays paid.

Another MB here. I don't want to inflame passions but I really think this board needs a reality check. When we were hiring nanny for our nanny share in DC and were offering a rate of $18 in downtown DC (which is more or less the average in DC, Arlington is lower) we had gobs of applicants, and of these, a handful of them were excellent. Point being - there are so many people out there looking for jobs and a small subset of these people are real gems. I don't think my experience as a MB is particularly unique. There will always be a segment of the childcare market that wants the multiple languages, super certified class of nannies - and will pay the high rates that some nannies tout on this board. But many of us MBs are very pleased with the care that our children are getting at the average "market rate"... $16 is not shabby, and there will be plenty of individuals - some of whom will likely be great - who will apply for the job. There is no reason to mock a MB for offering this. If it's not for you, just move on!

If what you say had even a grain of truth to it, why can't you do anything to help her out? Doesn't your nanny know anyone looking for a job? You are in a fantasy world. If there were so many great nannies looking for jobs, why are so many mb's complaining every day here about their great nannies? You can't have it every which way. So make up your mind already. Actually OP - I think the ad reads well, is fair, and you should get good response. You won't get the highest end nannies at that rate but you certainly can find experienced, quality, trust-worthy, safe, and hopefully loving, care at that level.

Why don't you post your job in the right place?

We would like to employ a nanny full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-6pm. We live in the Donaldson Run neighborhood of N. Arlington (22207). Nanny must be legal to work in the US.
From now until July, the nanny would care for 2 toddler girls, one 2 y/o and the other girl is 19 months. These girls have been together for over a year. They play well together, nap well, eat well, and are rarely sick. They are great little people and very easy to care for.
I am expecting another daughter in early July, at which point the nanny would be solely dedicated to caring for our 2 y/o daughter and her new sister. I will be home on maternity leave for 12 weeks, returning to work at some point in September. We also anticipate enrolling our 2 y/o in a preschool for 2-3 hours a day, 2-3 days a week in September. The nanny would need a reliable car and a clean driving record to drop off and pick up our daughter. We are offering $16/hour. Two weeks of paid leave (10 days); one week at your request and one week at our request. During your first year of service, the nanny chooses 2 federal holidays for paid leave, with additional holidays to be earned in subsequent years.
