I realize that, but she said I am expected regardless. She will then tell me if and when I can go home. I'm not a child and can decide for myself if I feel comfortable driving.

That is good. She depends on her income just as you depend on hers. I'm sure she'll appreciate you for this, especially since she's on a weekly salary.

OP here, gave her the day off with full pay. Not sure if my office will be closed, but I plan to telework and will make due. Just not worth the stress to have her work for her or me.

OP, if you don't pay her, expect her to quit or become resentful. You can't just not pay her for the hours she's scheduled to work if something happens to prevent her from working that is out of her control. And no, you cannot make her take it out of her sick pay or vacation time. Don't be a cheap ass.

We follow federal government closing schedule. If the federal government closes, our nanny gets a free day (paid). Otherwise, she is either expected to come in or take a personal day.

Yep, but I'm in Florida. No snow days. If MB were to give me a day off for some other reason I would be paid still though.

Oh I really hope you don't take it out of her sick days. That's not fair. It's not her fault. I had a job that made us take leave for snow days (at a school) and that was one of the factors that went into me quitting.

I'm in the midwest so we're getting hit with the snow as I type this. I'm at home today. Both of my employers are working from home due to the snow. DB's company notified employees yesterday evening that the office would be closed today (DB had already decided to work from home today and told his team to do the same as of yesterday morning). MB let me know of their decision yesterday around lunchtime (the first time I saw her yesterday).

I'm grateful to my employers for deciding to tag team today in order to have me stay home. They have always said that no meeting or project is worth compromising my safety. My pay is unaffected and won't count against sick/vacation.

Our nanny will be working but that's because she asked to spend the night with us as she is nervous about driving in bad weather. If the federal government closes then I would give her the day off (paid) as that's what would happen with me.

But she'd rather just stay with us and not worry about it. Lucky us!

You should probably talk with your nanny about her travel options, comfort level in the weather, using school/government closings as a rule of thumb, etc... so you have some sort of framework to operate within.

If my employers don't work or decide to telecommute tomorrow I will be off. The day will come out of my sick/personal time, but I will be paid.

I am wondering if most nannies will be working tomorrow? If not when does MB let you know that she doesn't need you?

I am asking as we are new to having a nanny. Our nanny gets paid a set weekly salary, so would get paid the same regardless if we used her tomorrow.
