No one said that nannies turn to violence because they are underpaid. That's ludicrous. We hear of one nanny abuse story maybe two a year, versus the hundreds of cases of parental abuse. Like the previous poster stated, any idiot with a womb can become a parent. The PP mentioned that many parents don't know how to go about hiring a nanny, so they just pick some random woman who has ok credentials. I don't know the background on this family, but I think this woman was more of a babysitter than a nanny. Where are all the stories of the nannies who love and cuddle with their charges? I assure you, you will find WAY more of those.

Being a parent has zero requirements beyond possessing a uterus in most cases. Sometimes people do horrible things. At least with nannies, parents can check references and install cameras. One of my Facebook "friends" posted this video of this woman beating the tar out of her charge (an 11-month-old boy). I don't watch these types of videos, so I don't know what happened but it was apparently so bad many felt it was a miracle the boy survived.

The comments under the video really upset me. A lot of nanny bashing, as well as bashing parents who send their child to daycare or have nannies.
"I would never leave my child with someone who is not family, I love them too much!"
"This is why our world is so [explicit]. Babies need their mommies, not some psycho stranger."

I'm a nanny, and these comment really hurt my feelings. I can only imagine what a parent who isn't able to stay home with her children may feel. Why are people letting these few monstrosities rule their entire perception of people who are in reality really nice people, who genuinely love and care children. I had a good friend comment about how poorly she thought of nannies, and how she could never trust one and I really wanted to comment "Do you trust me? Do you think I'd do such horrid things to anyone? Especially a child?"

Bad things happen, there are no excuses. I just don't understand why people let fear rule them, and use these to feed their prejudices (anti-women in the work field).
