Sorry, as a long time nanny, I have to disagree. Haven't seen that many agency owners coming from a child development background. Mostly MBA's, lawyers, or business people, looking for fast $$$. They certainly hit the jackpot!

Seriously, the best and most convenient (albeit expensive) way to do it is through an agency. You interview people who have already had their criminal background & DMV checks cleared and their references have been verified. They've also already been through at least one round of interviews with the agency, so you know you're not wasting your time interviewing some frumpy scam artist looking for a quick fix. On the other hand, potential nannies know that these families are serious about hiring a professional nanny and have most likely been through the process before (or, at the very least, have the agency guiding them through the process) it has been my experience that nannies who go through agencies are definitely less likely to be abused by their employers.

Makes me laugh every time I see the ones that say "Must love kids!" REALLY!?!?

+1. I've stopped even reading those ads made using the wizard. They all sound the same and don't make any sense.

We gave up on them and the others like them, a long time ago. Totally useless.

Is anyone else getting sick of the care.com job postings that all sound the same? I understand it is easier for the parents if they don't need to write out their job posting, but seriously this is getting ridiculous. I want to go back to when all the parents actually wrote out their own ads. It makes it so much easier to get an idea of what the position is actually going to be like.
