Don't price yourself at $25 unless you don't want to get hired. There are plenty of high school/college students looking for summer jobs, and unless you are providing summer tutoring services or other services in addition to nannying $25 an hour is very high. Your monthly rate can always be negotiated (along with benefits).

I've started seeing some postings already (I'm also looking for something temporary in the summer). If you look on the nanny search forums here as well as care.com, etc you may find something. Don't be afraid to network too, that's even more effective.

Some camp programs are a fortune!

I think the only families willing to pay that rate for a PT summer nanny are going to be those that absolutely NEED a teacher, either because their kids are seriously struggling in school or have special needs. The number of families in this situation are probably going to be pretty low though. There are a LOT of different options for child care in the summer (HS sitters, college sitters, plenty of camps ranging from school programs to sleep away, etc) and this drives down the cost somewhat.

Thanks for the response. I assumed that since the parents of my students are asking me about summer camp options, families would also be planning for summer nanny care, if such a trend exists. However, I haven't seen any postings for such.

I'm in Washington, DC. I know there are a million options in summer camps here... maybe this is why people are not looking yet for summer nannies?

Can't recommend any agency unfortunately. Start looking now. Post anywhere you can think of. Put the word out everywhere.

I'm considering advertising for a summer, PT nanny position. I'm a teacher, and would like to make a some extra income this summer, but do not want to work full time. I would assume that families would need summer childcare, but all of the postings I've seen here and on Craigslist are for positions that start within the month, or are long-term part-time positions. Is there actually a demand for PT, summer nanny work, or do the DC area camps fill this need? If there is a demand, how far in advance do families start looking to fill such a position? Where (aside from CL and this forum) are the best places to post? Would anyone recommend a nanny agency for PT, temporary work?
