I've decided to go.

I talked to their last nanny who went to the family as a temp and enjoyed it so much she ended up staying for a year. She has also put me in touch with other nannies she knows from her time there.

I understand that there will be a huge cultural (and temperature difference) but I also think its a good chance for an adventure. I talked to my Dad and he thinks its safe enough as long as I don't do anything stupid. Also I have money for an emergency ticket out of the country should I need it.

Just wanted to say thank you to the only person who actually gave me some advice - "do some research". Thanks!

OP I want to chime in that this is a risky thing to do on your own. Saudi Arabia is not the place to relocate for employment without some sort of company or government sponsorship and protection. What will happen if you get ill or are injured? What will happen if things go south with your family? Foreigners often feel that the restrictive laws against women don't apply to them there but they do. If you are on your own, you will potentially have even more difficulty with these.

Dubai is in the UAE, about 750 miles from Saudi Arabia. Think twice before giving advice about places you clearly know nothing about.

It's to bizarre to be legit. No one in their right mind would do something that dumb.

Not looking to slam you, but maybe you want to do some research. I wouldn't go there without a bodyguard I really trusted. Surely they must be paying you enough to afford that?

I'm not an Au Pair, I'm currently a nanny. I have been offered a nanny position in Dubai with a family from the UK (well MB is from the UK, the DB is originally from the USA). I'm not looking for posters to slam my choice of countries I'm just after any advice or tips HF might have for me

She says she's a nanny, but won't say where she wants to go. Not sounding legit.

Are you sure this is legitimate? Au pairs work through protection of an agency. It sounds like you are doing this on your own.

What country? That makes a huge difference.

I am a nanny and have been offered a job in a new country with a family that I have never actually met, just skyped with. Kinda like an AU Pair would. I was just wondering if any host families or Au pairs have any tips for me: things like adjusting to a new country, packing tips, ensuring the family is a good fit ect?
Thanks
