You would need to host. I am in a nanny share as a nanny with two 9 month olds. We switch off every 2 weeks and works out great. For me it would easier to not have the older on in day care. It would be easier on the older one to have a friend (family with older child) then to have 2 infants and much easier for the nanny for the nanny to get out. Also you need to think about paying taxes and her take home pay and factor in if you will pay for health insurance.

I think you've got several things that are going to make finding a share very difficult for you. Majority of shares are just two kids, one from each family. Also not needing FT care will make setting this up difficult, you'll have to find both a family and a nanny looking for hours that match yours.

Having the 3 yo in preschool half day would probably be VERY difficult logistically. Nanny would need a car and car seats capable of holding all three kids (unless the preschool is in walking distance?). Not to mention the difficulty of scheduling two kids (possibly both infants) around pre-school pick up could be very challenging as well.

On the other hand, having the 3 yo in full day pre-school would probably make finding and setting up a nanny share much easier.

Agree that you'll probably need to host it.

Your rates will probably differ depending on whether the other member of the share has an infant or a 3yo - that is, will the nanny have two infants and a toddler or two toddlers and an infant (this being potentially cheaper, MAYBE, but only if the toddlers are in preschool some of the time).

Either way, I'd expect the hourly rate to start at $20/hr or thereabouts, and you'd be responsible for 2/3 of it.

Agree with PP to find a nanny you like and see what her rates are. If you want to get a sense for it, go on care.com or sittercity.com, find some nanny profiles you like the looks of, and then see what their rates are listed as. You'll have a better sense after that.

I think with your family adding 2 children to the mix, you should expect to host. No one will want 2 additional children adding daily wear and tear to their home, or storing all of their stuff. Also I don't know that a share will save you as much as you're looking to save. For 3 children in a share the rate at minimum will be $18 (likely higher) and you would be responsible for 2/3 of it so $12/hour.

The bigger challenge is to find someone you like. Do that first and ask her about rates.

We are expecting #2 in June and are not totally satisfied with #1's home day care. I don't think we can afford $15+/hr for our own nanny,, so I'm trying to figure out if a nanny share would be feasible for us. What rate range could we expect to pay for a nanny share when we have two kids (3yo and 3mo) and need care 3 days / 30 hrs per week? How would the rate differ if it was just the infant (3yo in full-day preschool), or if the 3yo was in half-day preschool and the nanny needed to pick him up? I would prefer not to host but have not ruled it out. Thanks.
