I think it is also fine considering that she only gets 32 hrs a week on average. That is on the low side and once you start to drop the number of hours needed each week, paying a bit more per hour is usually the way to go. It is still enough hours that she can live on, but also enough that it can make it really hard to find a second position that would work with her current schedule.

So I think that the jump from $16/hr for one child to $18/hr for 2 kids (and at her one year anniversary mark) seems good for 32 hours per week.

$18 is fine

Yes $2/hr raise sounds very reasonable because you're bringing an infant into the picture, which is a BIG transition.

Look at it as one dollar for her yearly raise, and another for an added child.

It depends. Where are you located?

In the DC area, it is normal to bump the rate by $!/hr. That said, if you are in DC, you may have been overpaying at @ 16/hr. This is definitely high for this area for a single child.

I think it is a reasonable raise, given that it will be her one year anniversary and also that you will be adding a second child into her care. It is generous but if she is a good nanny I don't feel like it is unwarranted.

Hi everyone,

We have a terrific nanny who will be with us a year in the Fall, the same time that we are expecting our second. She's been caring for our toddler at $16/hr for 32 hrs/week on average. At the one year mark, I was thinking of bumping her up to $18/hr for the same number of hours. This represents a 12.5% raise. DH says there's no way we're giving her that much of a raise but frankly I think $18/hr for two kids is kind of industry standard around here and I do want her to know how much we appreciate her (we also show her in other ways - one week's pay at the holidays, treating her respectfully, giving her extra hours here and there, etc). What do you all think? Is 12.5% too high of a raise?
