It really depends on your contract from the beginning, this issue REALLY should be discussed before you take any job.

For me, I am willing to watch sick children. I however do not watch children with the stomach flu, severe flu, or strep throat. Essentially, if it's extremely contagious and could keep me out from work both MB and I rather I stay away. I've watched children with ear infections and chest colds, but if your child is vomiting 24/7 I call the parents. Many nannies watch children regardless, that was just my plan since I'm also a student and don't need to miss school.

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure he'll be fine by Monday. Normally I watch him so the parents can go out. Usually 1 or 2 date nights a week and than each like girls/boys night once a week. So it's not like they are going to work. they both work during the day while he's in daycare.

If it was reversed, and my ft charges got something contagious, I would let them know (my pt job). I actually had to just do this. FT charges got noro virus!! And so did their mom. I never got it but told my pt job - just in case. Luckily they didn't need me all week.

In my setup: fever/vomiting/diarrhea means mom or dad stay home with kiddo.

He'll probably be fine by Monday. If he still has a fever Sunday I'd say mom should stay home with him Monday.

OP, I am a nanny with a similar arrangement - FT, daytime job and a PT job that is not set in stone but happens mostly in evenings (and some weekends).

I go to my FT job regardless of illness, but I do not go to my PT job if the kids have anything more than a cold (no flu, pink eye, etc.) - it is an informal arrangement and my primary obligation is to my FT employer. I won't take any other jobs that might jeopardize my ability to go to work or increases the likelihood of exposing my FT charge to infection (he's under 1).

In an ordinary nanny setting you watch the kids when they are sick unless there are special circumstances. When our nanny was pregnant and we were concerned the children might have an illness you shouldn't be exposed to in pregnancy, of course we told her to stay away.

If you work a few nights a week for someone, the answer comes down to what the two of you agree upon. You wouldn't not come to work at the FT job because one child had the flu, right?

Hi all

I work a FT job and a PT job.
My FT job is with two kids under 1.5

My question is with my part time job.
I work it about 2 to 3 nights a week (mostly during the week) but it's never set in stone. Sometimes the mom texts me at like 4 saying she doesn't need me to pick up toddler x from daycare (which is a whole different issue).

I found out that toddler x has home sick with the flu since yesterday. I'm worries about him still being sick if I have to watch him (normally Monday, tues, Thursday). Would you all tell part time MB you can't watch him sick? Which by Monday he could be fine but they are just guessing the flu.
My FT charges aren't in daycare but we do go to music classes once a week.

I don't think it's right to knowingly watch someone who maybe contagious and than spread it.
