Also, what the hell kind of name is Farley?
I couldn't help but think of Chris Farley. I can see the jokes when she enters school, "Hey Fartley"!

OP here and I totally agree. They were all in WAY over their heads, despite their best intentions.

Alejandra, poor dear, was way over her head. She had no idea how to handle children, but neither did the parents. She had no business being a nanny, and the parents had no business having children.

I watched this episode of Supernanny yesterday (s04e24) and the whole time I was thinking that it perfectly reflected the disagreements on this forum. If you haven't yet seen it, especially if you're an MB with an attitude about nannies, go and watch it and you will see the difference between what some people call nannies and what a real nanny does. You will also hopefully then understand why we all disagree so much about what a nanny is worth - if you're picturing Alejandra when you say $15/hr is more than enough, and I'm picturing Jo when I say $20/hr is reasonable, no wonder we aren't connecting.
I also suspect if that perfectly nice, well-intentioned mother were posting here that she'd be one of the MBs raging about how entitled and overpaid the nannies on this board are - because she hired a perfectly nice, well-intentioned babysitter (who calls herself a nanny) and has no idea what an actual nanny does.
