Haven't you heard? Nannies are not allowed to get pregnant! It is far too inconvenient for the MBs and gives them full license to fire the nanny for it.

I'm an MB. I would expect her to disclose it as soon as she's comfortable disclosing it to the general public and no earlier. That's what I did/will do with my bosses. I wouldn't expect her to have an entire strategy for what she wants in terms of maternity leave and coming back set then, but it would be nice if she went into the conversation prepared with some suggestions.

OP here. I would be thrilled if my MB is pregnant and understand if she wants to wait until later in a pregnancy. I knew before starting with them that they wanted more children and I'm on board. I love my job and my charges.

I'm contemplating this situation now and I would wait. I only tell people about pregnancy in the first trimester if I am comfortable also telling them about a miscarriage. Plus my current nanny has already given notice for before any potential baby would arrive (the situation is amicable).

Its pretty common not to tell anyone including family members other than DH until after 12 weeks. If she has had high risk pregnancies, she might wait until 16 weeks.

I'm an MB and I would probably wait. Not because of any issue w/ the nanny but because I wouldn't tell anyone except DH about a pregnancy until I felt I was in the clear.

I've had the "miscarriage after announcing" experience and I wouldn't want to do that again.

Don't take it personally if you're not told - decisions like this are almost always about the woman's comfort zone w/ her health/privacy/etc... and not about the individuals who feel left out.

Some women have no such concerns and tell very early - it's a very personal decision (and one that can change over time and experience, as it did with me).
