Its a disaster in the waiting to set up a nanny share and give the nanny carte blanche to do whatever. In a share, you have 2 sets of parents who may have different ideas on what is appropriate. One set may be fine with TV and the other set may not. One set may be no sugar and one set may be sending cookies. One parent may want to sign up for music class and the other parent may not. The parents in the share really need to sit down and see where they agree and where they don't. The nanny needs to be given more direction in a share or she will be caught in between the parents.

The logistics of two same age but not related kids is different. For safety, you should try to pick the house that is closer to kid safe activities like a park that isn't too big or easy to lose kids or a library.

The other thing to work out with the other parent is how to handle childcare when the kids are sick. In a single family nanny situation, the nanny comes in when the kids are sick. In shares, sometimes the parents follow the same rule and sometimes they agree to keep sick kids home.

Sorry, but I happen to come from a family who was at the mercy of nazi's. We recognize this kind of oppression, even today in an online forum. We shall not be silenced by control freaks like 12:49.

Here are some websites with sample contracts:
http://www.myfunnyfunnyfamily.com/2006/12/sample-nanny-share-agreement.html

http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/free-books/sharing-book/chapter9-5.html

http://www.parkslopeparents.com/docs/THE%20PSP%20GUIDE%20TO%20A%20Nanny%20Share.FINAL%282%29.pdf
I'm not sure if that last link will work, but it's a very detailed guide about shares. I only skimmed it, but it looks like it's worth a read.

Some parents desire a professional nanny, and others prefer more of a sitter type, who is dependant on parental direction at every turn.

Where the nanny is allowed to take the kids??
When I did a share, I took the kids anywhere I wanted. The parents looked to me for endless advice. That's the difference between a professional and a sitter. You'd be in trouble if you left anything, up to the sitter's judgement. Therefore, she indeed needs a very thick "rule book".

OP do not fall for this type of nanny. She is in no way a professional just a scammer who wants to run all over town with your kids in tow.

We sat down with our nanny and came up with a list of mutually acceptable places that they would go. Our nanny is encouraged to add things to the list and unlike the above poster is not a bad nanny who thinks spending the day at the mall doing her own shopping is a good activity. In the interview, we were upfront that shopping malls and fast food places would be off limits as would driving on the beltway or trips further than 15-20 minutes away. Every professional candidate was fine with this. A few inexperienced 20 somethings looked disappointed but we would not have hired them anyway.

OP if this is a traditional nanny share with 2 kids from both families for the working hours then do one agreement between the families and one agreement between the families and the nanny. The agreement between the families covers things like who is providing strollers, location, and notice period to pull out of the share.

The agreement with the nanny covers rate, schedule, PTO, notice periods for PTO requests, inclement weather, duties to be performed, mileage reimbursement if this a factor, and notice period for termination outside of cause. In the nanny contract you should stipulate the actual base and OT rate. You can also specify that payment and tax filing is done separately by each family. I would not offer to do non required withholding in a share situation.

A work agreement is not a rule book. Kids will change so I would leave instructions on where the nanny can take the kids, what they should eat etc to a rule book or discussion with the nanny has the kid's needs change.

As I nanny, I write the draft, and allow for adjustments, as long as they are agreeable to both parents and myself.

It's in her best interest to take an active role in drafting the contract. Parents tend to draft one sided contracts. I have a basic contract that I edit for each job and submit it to new employers for review and edits.

Why would a nanny be responsible for composing a nanny share contract?

If you can find a good nanny, she should be able to do it for you, with the needs of all addressed.

I'm having no problem finding a nanny contract but would like one that deals specifically with a nanny share. Any resources would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
