Some people are oblivious with regard to keeping children adequately dressed.

+1 on both accounts. I live in NJ too. All week the daytime HIGH has been in the low 20s. During morning drop off it is low single digits with wind chill ("real feel" temperature). Its been so cold I have been driving the kids (even though school is less than a mile away) and this morning my toes were frozen despite my wearing wool socks and sheepskin lined winter boots. If I were the parents I would not be happy about this situation.

It's not about "reporting" you, pp, it's about helping babies stay safe and healthy. If you don't care about that, why are you here?

I agree that the baby doesn't need a coat for a quick dash into the school and back out to the car. Changing in the car is not as bad as you think, the car is still warm inside and even with the hatchback open, just getting inside a foot makes a big difference than being totally outside. I think you should stay out of it if this is all that seems wrong.

For a quick in and out of the school I don't think it's a big deal. Same with the diaper change. If the car (and heat) was on, then it wouldn't have even been all that cold. Either way I don't see a problem with such short exposure. Now if she were taking the kid for long walks out in the cold without bundling, that'd be a different story.

If those are her biggest offenses, I'm missing your concern. I never tried to overdress a baby and with car seats baby should NOT be having a heavy coat. Blanket over car seat is far safer. If this were my child she would be doing what I asked. I have changed my child outside in the cold. We get a rash if you wait and he does not mind at all. He runs hot so if you over dress him, he gets angry baby.

She is just running the girl into/out of the school. And that's why I wasn't as concerned as I was today seeing that baby's bare bottom being wiped in 20 degree weather. I have spoken with this nanny before in passing and can strike up another conversation with her. I was also going to talk to my MB about it tomorrow to see what she thinks especially from her perspective.

Why don't you start by striking up some sort of conversation with that nanny?

If she's just running the little girl into the school I wouldn't worry about it. I heat up my car before the life get it since they cant wear their coats in the carseats. If I only had one child with me it would take just as long to get her out of the carseat and get her coat on as it would to run her right into the school.

OP here. I am a very caring nanny. I have no way of contacting the parents. What I found odd was that there were plenty of moms walking around the situation too. Doesn't anyone else say anything? The parents that have children in the same class have a class list with parental information and could easily contact them. My charge is not in that class. This nanny and her coatless baby charge are in the pickup line daily and the nanny interacts with the other parents. Is going to the director of the school the appropriate channel? I am not comfortable confronting the nanny. People are nuts and I don't know how she will react.

You can't possibly be a nanny who cares about kids.

I am a NJ nanny where we are having a cold snap. I take one of my charges to preschool and see another nanny there who is very friendly but she is doing something that I think the parents should know about. She cares for one child that goes to the same school (in another class) and a 9 month old girl. This baby never has a jacket on. She mostly wears sleepers with feet. The nanny also never wears a jacket. She wears scrub tops with thermals underneath. I understand that she is from the midwest and may be a person who doesn't get cold but why does this baby not wear a jacket? To make matters worse, when I picked up my charge I saw her changing the baby in the back of the car (hatchback up) and was wiping her bare bottom with a wipe. It was in the 20's today. That baby had to be freezing and so uncomfortable. She could have found a place inside the school to change her or even taken her to a nearby fast food place to use the restroom changing table. I am aware that she comes from about 20 minutes away to this school so I know that she is not local to just wait until she gets back to the house. I only know this nanny in passing and do not know the parents. Would I be out of line talking to someone at the school to notify the parents or should I stay out of it?
