OMG, you can get her out. These are your children so if worse case, just throw her a** into a hotel for a week or two and tell her the hotel is her serverance since she didn't leave when you first told her too.

She didn't care about your kids safety and now that she's fired she definitely doesn't care. What are you doing OP? Get her out!

Don't leave your kids with her and get her out even if it means paying for a hotel and severance for two weeks. Don't forget about the New York nanny murders!

Since she was a live in, giving her two weeks to find a new place seems reasonable. However, just because she's living there for two weeks doesn't mean she has to continue watching your child for those two weeks. In fact I'd even argue that since you fired her for cause because of negligence, that you don't even have to give her two weeks pay (and I'm a nanny). Do you have any friends with nannies that might be able to do a temporary share while you find a new nanny? Any SAHM friends? I would be really hesitant to leave a child with someone who has already proven to be slightly neglectful after they've been fired.

Pay her for the 2 weeks and get her out.

OP, you did fire her, right?

20 minutes completely out of sight and earshot is really unacceptable. I'm all for independent play, but I always make sure I'm fairly close by (ie. in the kitchen getting lunch ready while the kids play in an attached playroom) and can intervene quickly if necessary. The fact that she couldn't even hear that you came home is crazy!

Please just tell us she's gone, before your children get hurt.

We recently hired a live in nanny who had great references and seemed wonderful. She moved in and things seemed to be going well. One day, I came home early and found my 15 mos old twins downstairs alone with the dog, and the nanny nowhere to be found. I waited and 20 min later, she came down, looking startled. I asked why the kids were left alone, and her response was....you have to trust them!!!!!!!!!! I watched the nanny cam tapes and found this is a regular occurence. I confronted her and she truly doesn't get it, she thinks it is acceptable. I'm shocked and disappointed. Anyone else ever experience this?
