According to the Sittercity site the regular background check includes the following:

Verification of: legal name, current and previous address, social security number, aliases
Criminal records check including: state criminal records, state sex offender registry, prison and parole records

The enhanced background check includes everything from the standard check plus felony and misdemeanor records in both county and federal courts based on the address.

There is no credit check involved.

Can anyone else confirm what the first responder said? There's no credit check involved, etc?

Background check on those sites cover crap. I have misdemeanor that I just got sealed but it never showed up on any of those sites background checks. None of my families ever bothered to do an actual check with the police department that cost $20. Luck for me but very stupid of the parents. That said my misdemeanor is non violent and doesn't effect me getting jobs but it was nice not having to explain the situation to parents prior to it being sealed.

No, once a nanny is background checked she gets a stamp on her profile saying so. The background checks only last 6 months though, I think that's true of all background checks, not just sittercity's.

I wouldn't trust Sittercity/care.com. They don't always find charges! There was an investigation on this before. I would say if you REALLY want to hire a nanny, you need to have an FBI/BCI background check done. It's just safer. It's costly ($70) but its worth it for your child's safety. Read the following article for more information. Im a nanny btw.

OP. Thank you, PP. Did you run a check on a candidate?

Nope, I'm a Nanny. When parents request background checks on us through sittercity, we get notified of the request, have to approve it, and there's a link detailing the type of information the family will receive.

More and more nannies are concerned about getting their paychecks on time. The parents should address that potential problem during the interview. If the nanny takes a job with an established business, there is a history established that she can depend on. Not so, with random families.

Does anyone here know exactly what is covered in the SitterCity background check? Does it include a credit check? What else?
