Apparenly, you do not understand the difference between the delicate conditions of MBs compared to brood mare status of "The Help." It is not acceptable for you you to inconvenience these hot house hybrids.

Nannies have children too???

Definitely wait. My mb has added 2 more kids since I have worked here. Both pregnancies she told me at 12wks but I had already guess before that. It was hard knowing but having to wait but I did so out of respect.
It is a bit worrying but chances are even when she first tells you she might not know whats happening

I'd wait for them. We did not tell our nanny until the end of the first trimester at the same time that I told my co-workers and most family members. I never left pregnancy tests around, but my nanny had figured it out by the time we told her. I'm not sure when or how, but I did appreciate her discretion in waiting for us to bring it up.

I told our nanny after the first trimester. It was getting pretty obvious. But, I still couldn't tell her what was going to happen with her job. I'm an older mom, and things happen. I won't be making definite plans until I'm about 7 months along. That's still two months notice ... would you expect more?

How far along is she? If she is less than 12 weeks pregnant it's understandable that she hasn't told you yet.
My MB told me she was pregnant at 5 weeks which I already knew, but I would have prefered if she had not told me so soon because of the risks of miscarriage.

Call some agencies and tell them you might be looking in a few months. Ask parents for a written reference for a volunteer opportunity, just in case. Take an infant course, start babysitting for families with infants and decide what your willing to accept if they do decide to keep you.

Basically start preparing for both possibilities, either staying or being let go. Once they tell you about the pregnancy then you go forward with your plan of action

This is great advice!

Obviously I knew she was pregnant but it wasn't my place to bring it up with her. Your boss is not your friend and you need to know your place. Whatever is happening in her uterus is NONE of your business. She might be waiting until 20 weeks in case there is a problem and she needs to terminate. Seriously, MYOB and she will tell you when she's ready.

Wow. Just a bit harsh, ya think?

+1

It's completely their decision of when to tell you, but I know when your employers keep this kind of stuff secret it can make you very anxious and hurt your feelings a bit (did mine).

I worked for one couple and they were like 6 months in before they told me, although it had been obvious for at least five. She had horrendous morning sickness, I saw that she was taking Folic Acid, and she changed her tune about selling some baby stuff. I was pretty hurt and confused, turns out that she was trying to decide whether or not to go back to work. She didn't, I found a new job. A way better job.

Wait for them to bring it up. She may be in the first trimester still and not willing to make the pregnancy public knowledge yet. They'll share the news when they are ready.

Your anxiety is understandable, but they may not have the answers you are looking for right now. Try to sit tight and just wait until they announce the news to you, and hopefully at that time they will also have information for you about the plan once the baby arrives.

While my charge's grandfather was visiting, he let slip to me that MB is expecting.. I suspected that they were.. (I've seen pregnant tests in the trash). I have a good relationship with the family, so I'm just wondering why they haven't told me yet, as it effects my job. I don't know how much maternity leaves she has and when she plans to take that, if she will need me to take care of the other kids during that time, etc.. I just am anxious to know if I need to be looking for a new job soon during that time. Should I just bring it up to them and tell them congratulations? Or should I wait until they bring it up with me? How long would you wait to tell your nanny that you were expecting?
