This is why I have an au pair. I don’t want to be guilted for stuff that is out of my control. It’s not like I pop into a bar on my way home.

My former employers were late pretty much two or three times a week near the end. They started out being respectful but then just let everything slide. They could not have cared any less about my time or my plans/family. Worst was their little girl would wait at the door for her mother. The mother told me, “we’re just not the kind of people who can be on time”. She said the same about having a filthy kitchen when I got to work and left her underwear on my charge’s bathroom floor several times. Pigs.

Like hell, it isn't! Hourly employees do get paid for every minute worked.

I hope you pay for this perk. If not, she should quit. There is no excuse for lateness for you either. If you get caught in traffic, leave earlier.

I’m late nearly every morning by about 4-7 minutes. They don’t care because they do the same in the evening or get home and need to do something really quickly.

My start time is 8 am but they can rest assured I’ll be there by at least 8:15

My stop time is 6 pm but I know I’ll at least be leaving by 6:10 or so. Works for us. When.

When my stop time was 5 Mb was late almost daily.

Hourly paid workers are paid for every minute. If you have daycare , $1.00 dollar for every minute late. If you eant leeway of 30 minutes, you shoukd pay for this time. There is no excuse for habitual lateness for a nanny employer.

It's a little insulting that you're saying a nanny would get upset about 1 minute. I said regularly 15 minutes (or more) late.

Do you pay her until 6 or 5:30? If I were your nanny, I probably wouldn't say anything but it would really bug me if you wanted me available until 6 but didn't pay me for it. It would affect when I could make evening plans if I have to block off that time for you, but don't always get paid for it.

I had the same question when I saw the answers MBs were posting! I am typically about 10 minutes early every morning. Its a rare treat for me to actually get to leave on time, but I know for a fact that if I were late once a week, heck, even once a month it would not be tolerated.

In the other thread it was said that it's unacceptable for many, if not all, if a nanny was late by 15 minutes once a week. I agree with that; it's potentially grounds for dismissal.
But what about the flip side? How often is too often for MB/DB to be late coming HOME?

MB is late coming home by 15 minutes a minimum of once a week. Some weeks I'm lucky if I finish on time one day out of 5. While it isn't the same because I am getting paid for that time, it can get a little frustrating; right? Especially when she leaves the house late!
