Not an MB, but I agree that a small gift for the kids and not the parents would be just as nice.

Actually, would love pictures of my kids--documenting a year in scrapbook form...it's something I can't do because I don't have time, and I obviously can't do the activities with them, in person...it would be priceless in my eyes. If she could somehow give me the pictures in e-format, that would be icing on the cake!

My nanny doesn't cook...I do all the cooking on weekends, and she thaws and re-heats. But if my nanny DID cook, and could put together some 'pre-made' meals for us (I would pay for the food! The prep and cooking would be her gift)...the angels would sing in heaven!

Free babysitting...sigh...well...I LOVE this option...but we still have a difficult time ever taking her up on it. BUT during the holiday season...it just might be a wonderful gift for us, especially if she gives it to us way in advance...because we have some adult only invites, where we really could use her help.

I also agree with just focusing on the gift giving to my children. Small tokens are definitely welcomed. Our nanny's daughter comes with her to work...and other than the week's pay bonus we give the nanny...the gift focus is on her child. Usually a new outfit, or a toy.

Also, if the nanny chooses a little small something for the kids, that's nice. Last xmas, the nanny got my son a small lego set and my daughter a few books. She couldn't have spent more than $20 total, but it showed that she knew what the kids were into.

This. I don't get my boss a gift at work, and while I love, love, love my nanny I'd feel odd if she got me something.

I always feel strange when the nanny gets me a gift; I pay her, then she spends her money on me? Seems wrong ... I don't mind if she gets something small for the kids, though -- I know she has a more personal relationship with them.

I second the baked goods, particularly if the family will be having company for the holidays. I also love pictures of the kids -- for my office or home. Chrismas ornaments are great. What I love most is a replacement for a broken item that I keep forgetting to replace or things we're always losing. One year, our nanny bought us scissors and tape and a special box for them that said "parents only" so that our kids knew not to use them (a common problem in our house). It was really funny, and perfect. Use your creativity. I couldn't have asked for a better gift. I would NEVER ask for a night of free babysitting.

I don't really want a gift from my nanny, but some brownies or cookies would be great.

OP here. Sorry that your experience(s) have been so horrible, PP! Mine have not however, and not only would my MB never think of asking for something like you suggested, but she would be appalled if anyone else did.

Pictures/scrapbook would be great. I don't expect gifts and would prefer you to spend your money on you.

Not MB but nanny and what I have found is a great gift is when I make a scrapebook of the kids that include photos and artwork from the past year. They love it.

I've been with my family for a few years now and I've run out of the traditional ideas I listed above. I have a very causal relationship with the family, since mb works from home, and not giving her a gift is kinda out of the question for me since I see her very often.
