You are not a slave. If it's outside of your working time, you can say no. That is true weather you are live-in or live-out.

OP, if she needs you, then she pays OVERTIME. You never work for free. What is wrong with you?

She claims she needs help with the other children while the sick child gets checked out by doctor. I would have no problem if it was on my time but because its always after my time, I feel like it shouldn't be my problem. My mom raised five children and somehow made it through doctors appointments without needing assistance.

That's fucked up. Start saying NO, or request earlier appts. Don't feel like you MUST do it!

Does she want you there so you can fill in details for the doctor since she isn't around her kid much? If you're just there for moral support then this is strange. I wouldn't cancel plans to hold MB's hand at a the doctor.

Ok, you have a legitimate beef then. Talk to your MB.

Your MB should try to schedule the appointments so you don't have to stay late but if they are during your normal hours, you should accompany her without being annoyed.

Everytime my charges are sick, I am expected to accompany MB to the visit..even for a common cold...because she can't do it alone. Is this normal? I've nannied for other families and have never experienced this before. I had plans tonight but had to cancel because one of the kids had a cold and had to visit the doctor. I told MB I had plans at six and I literally just got home five mintues ago. I'm so annoyed. To top it off, today is only Wednesday and I have already worked 33 hours this week. Rant over. :/
