You are right to flag the issue - it would bother me too. Just explain why it bothers you and ask her to stop.

I actually interviewed with a woman who stated this exact issue in the interview. I understood and wouldn't use those names anyway.

My nanny was doing this. I just told her I have an eating disorder and am sensitive to names related to body size or food, and I'd appreciate it if she didn't do that. She stopped immediately and it's never come up again.

Babies are chunky. My brother's nickname through most of elementary school was pudge or sweet pudgey in the words of my grandma. No he doesn't have body issues and no he was not a chunky kid. The names your nanny has given your daughter would only annoy me in that they aren't cute, not because she is calling my daughter chunky. But its your kid. If you don't like it tell her. It would be equally strange for her to be upset at you saying something.

Nanny here, even you stated that you don't think she has malicious intent, why would you be upset? I think the. I names are cute and I've used them for my little charges before, it usually so did MB/DB. Babies are suppose to be "chunky", think of it as a compliment to your DD health!

Babies are supposed to be fat, and it's quite common for family, friends, and caregivers to give nicknames to infants they would not use with older children.

Your nanny knows this. She will not be calling your daughter fat "when she gets older."

I personally don't think you should talk to her until you have figured out why it hurts your feelings, as it's a bit irrational to be hurt over this. If you do talk to her I think she'll be a little affronted and will become uncomfortable having you around, but will not be "mad."

BTW is she's calling your baby these names in front of you, she obviously means them to be sweet and not nasty. If you do talk to her, approach the issue carefully.

If it's hurting your feelings Op I'd definitely talk to her! If I were your nanny I'd understand and stop doing it. As a mom you probably have irrational sensitivity to words said about your daughter! I only mean that your nanny isn't doing anything wrong, but you're well within your right to ask her not to call your DD those names.

I called my niece chunkster until I realized she was no longer chuncky at about 6. lol. i think it's cute.

It's common to give babies cute little names, there's no harm in that.
Of course, it'd be different when she gets older and actually has a weight problem but no sane nanny would give her the same nicknames, that doesn't make sense.
