I had a share for awhile which had a 3.5 year old, an 8 month old and a 20 month old..plus occasionally a 5 year old when she was off of kindergarten. However, the extra kid or two was only two days a week. It worked well. The fourthchild was more of a help than a problem because my 3.5 year old LOVED playing with her all day long.

That's a steal for the parents. Even in Baltimore! I work near Baltimore, take care of two and make almost as much for 40 hrs a week.

The most common number of children is 2. I have seen some situation where a third, older sibling was added to the mix.

I've heard of shares with 3, usually one older sibling and two kids around the same age from different families. More than 3 seems a bit crazy.

I don't think this is normal in this area. Shares are almost always two kids. Once you get beyond 2 kids the logistics become a problem and the care ratio is basically the same as center or in-home daycare. If you live in area that doesn't have many daycare options then setting a quasi-daycare nanny share might make sense but around here it would be out of the norm.

OP you may have a problem finding a share partner because infant twins are a lot of work.

It seems like twins could have an additional older child once they are walking. I think it would be really tough before that point unless they are really really good nappers.

I have two most days and three some days. On those days the kids are 2, 21 months and 17 months. Been doing this a few months. On another say I have just the two younger and Anthe the 21 month old and a 6 month old. I don't think I could do three Littles that day because the infant is still in a needy stage of life and doesn't go down for naps easily and I can't depend on her sleeping for long stretches. It really depends on the personality of the kids as well as how neurotic the parents are.

There are three children in my share, but I don't have all 3 every day. Its more about the children's ages in the share than it is about how many, also the needs of each child. Infants take much more work and time than say 3 year olds, I could easily cope with three 3 year olds, I'm not sure how I would cope with 3 nine month olds.


Do you need a nanny full time? Or could you share in the sense that each family got the nanny for so many days. Also maybe if you find someone who is looking for before and after pre-school ?
