Pp you miss the point others have been trying to make which is that HOW you ask if very important given most employees' natural reluctance to say no to employers' requests. Fine: "We plan to hire someone to help out On Thanksgiving. You are welcome to the hours if you would like them but I assume you are liking celebrating with our family?" Not OK: "nanny I really need a hand on thanksgiving. Would you be able to come in for a few hours?"
Continued attempts to explain this are futile. You're arguing with people who can't see past their own entitlement. Its much easier to call someone names, say they are jealous, or crazy, or whatever than to admit that just because you "can" do something doesn't mean you should. It is a selfish abuse of power and they know it, but they will never admit it.
I think the issue is that we think we're arguing about different things. Instead of seeing this, you go off on a rant about entitled MBs who are selfishly abusing power. Nice. There are two separate "threads" going on: 1. You and a few others suggesting how to phrase the question so that the nanny doesn't feel pressured - not a single person has argued against this. 2. A few posts suggesting that you should literally never even ask your nanny to work on Thanksgiving on the off chance she might feel pressured - and then a few posts saying this is ridiculous for a number of reasons. Note that no one has disagreed with you that you could phrase this inquiry appropriately.
