You MBs who keeping living in the fantasy world of "market rates" like to forget the fact that you're talking about your babies. My babies mean the world to me. When I am not taking care of them myself, it's the one thing that I am more than happy to spend good money on.
Most parents are happy to spend money on their kids provided the value is there. Doubling a nanny's salary because a second child has been born would be a poor parenting decision, because the nanny's value did not double. As a parent, I would rather hire two nannies at $15 per hour so each kid gets full time, age-appropriate attention than pay one nanny $30 per hour to care for two kids. But really, it is not necessary to do either in order to get exceptional care, so why wouldn't the parents pay the standard $1-$2 raise and then put the difference away for college, camps, family trips that will enrich the kids, classes, or whatever? The nannies who try to try to convince people that parents who love their kids will throw endless money at nannies are just not very sophisticated, I'm afraid.
