It's OP's choice who she chooses for her kids' caregiver and if the candidate truly did use a picture that was misleading, then what else is she hiding? Now, I myself used to be obese and have finally went into the overeight column and still working on getting to a healthy weight. Truth be told, my energy compared to about a year ago when I weighed 50 lbs more is so much better. I feel like I can interact more and do so much more as far as physical activity and the like with my charges. While I would wish that my weight wouldn't be a factor in the hiring process, I know myself that if I had a child, I wouldn't hire a nanny who used to be my original weight. Just being honest.
Why would a picture in ANY way be used for consideration for the hiring process?? A picture is generally only needed so that when you go to meet with someone, you can match up the person who you had been talking with online and over the phone with the person you are meeting in person. Most of the time, you don't even have a picture to go by. Why someone needs to give you a current photo of themselves is ridiculous. Unless you plan on using that photo to be judgmental about the person (I don't like someone that has or does, or looks a certain way) then it is not necessary. You want someone "athletic"? That should mean you want someone that has the energy and stamina to take care of your kids, that might enjoy playing sports, and that might eat healthy while at work (being a good role model and not eating junk in front of the kids). That doesn't mean that a larger person cannot do any of that. So they might not be skinny or have very toned muscles, but if they can do everything you would want them to do, then it should be fine. I know many people that are just as healthy as me and not my size, and many that are worse than me and much smaller. Unless you plan on doing what another PP mentioned and giving every potential nanny a physical, looks are NOT the way to judge someone with how healthy they are. PP, while you have had the experience of gaining more energy while losing weight, you are not the same as everyone else. People's bodies don't all work the same with things like weight gain and loss. Some people don't lose that much energy when they gain weight. I have been at this weight before, lost some weight and had the same amount of energy at that time. Due to several factors that are out of my control, I gained the weight back, but I did not lose the amount of energy I had either. I am not unhealthy with what I eat, but I do have other health issues. They are not things that would make me a bad candidate, just mean that it is harder for me to deal with my weight issues. I see a doctor twice yearly about my cholesterol and blood pressure to make sure I am in good shape that way. I am in no way going to fall over dead at random. Parents don't mind my size because their kids see that I am very active, eat healthy and that is what they want their kids to do. They like to have their kids see that not everyone is skinny, and that there are reasons for being large other than not exercising and eating bad. I can do my job, better than some they have had in the past that were skinny, and they know it. If I ever had someone NOT hire me because of my size, then they do have that right and I wouldn't mind. I wouldn't want to work for a family that was that judgmental when they knew I was doing everything under my control to be the healthiest I could be.
