What would change about the OP's story that would make it OK to steal?
Stop. The nanny didn’t steal anything. She just didn’t knock herself out to return a car seat and keys on the woman who just fired her’ time table. My guess is the nanny got tired of jumping through hoops for this witch and was taking her time.
How long would you say she's justified to keep these items before you can call it stealing in your book? Don't be ridiculous. What's not yours is not yours. The OP offered to pick it up, or collect it from nanny's porch. The effort to put an old care seat and keys on your own porch is less than minimal. There is no reason for the nanny to delay returning them except the wish to inconvenience the OP.
OP gave it to nanny to put in her car. She should have collected it at time of firing. Again, if property is stolen, CALL AND REPORT TO POLICE AND ASK FOR POLICE ESCORT TO RETRIEVE.HER "STOLEN" PROPERTY!!!! The fact that she did not do this says she gave it to the nanny.
