My credit score is absolutely not an indicator of what type of person I am. I ran into financial troubles several years ago and I'm still trying to work my way out. I guess I could have cheated and stolen to pay my bills on time but that's not the kind of person I am. I wouldn't agree to a credit check. It's none of their business and I wouldn't want to work for a family who used that to judge me.
While you may think you are a good person, why did you take out credit, loans, or sign up for services that you couldn't afford?
I took out loans to put myself through grad school. I was young and dumb and also depended on credit cards to help me with my bills while I student taught and wasn't getting a paycheck. When I graduated I didn't find a teaching job for 2 years and worked as an aide. So yes, I was ignorant and should have been more responsible about my finances but it was several years ago and it certainly doesn't make me a bad person. I haven't even used a credit card in 4 years but it's still going to take some time to get out of the hole. It must be nice to have never made mistakes in your life.
When interviewing nannies wouldn't you rather pick someone that hasn't had a life full of mistakes and bad judgement?
Going to grad school and then struggling to find a job are mistakes? Bad judgement?
