I'm really uncomfortable with the name-calling and labeling on this board - and it definitely comes from both the nannies and MBs. As employees, nannies are always in the weaker position so I tend to agree with them more but, regardless, there is no need for the pettiness or downright meanness.
Same with the parent forum?
NP here who shares the same sentiment as first PP. Yes, same as with the parenting forum although I think the dynamic is a bit different. When parents attack each other over sleep training, breastfeeding, working vs SAH, etc., it just makes them look foolish and if I knew them in real life, I'd look down on them. Unfortunately on the nanny website, whether these posters are trolls or not, because they identify as either a nanny or MB, it negatively portrays each side of the nanny relationship. So you have people who think nannies are psycho and entitled based on the few on here/the trolls who can't have a normal discussion, and you have people think that all MBs are abusive, nasty bitches. I'm now an MB and I will be totally honest that I was hesitant to hire a nanny after reading some of the posts on this site. Seemed like no matter what I did, even if I paid a good wage, gave time off, health benefits, etc., I'd always be viewed as an evil bitch. Pretty much the only reason I ended up getting a nanny is because I know some IRL (one of my best friends, a few people I met in nursing school who are now specialty nannies) and they helped me figure out the ins and outs of the nanny world. It is pretty bad when posters feel like they can't ask normal questions (about pay, benefits, etc) without having to worry about the onslaught of insults hurtled their way. Same goes for nannies who feel like they can't post a question about how to deal with an issue without having insults thrown at them.
+1000. This is it exactly. People are just as nasty on the parenting forum but it doesn't make an entire group of people look bad as it does on the nanny forum.
Or jeopardize their employment opportunities. Parents come here looking for advise, and to possibly hire someone, and im sure some of this nonsense runs them off. I found my last position here, and these employers have been the most knowledgeable about norms in this industry and I've really appreciated that they use this resource, but I'm sure it sometimes scares the hell out of them as it does me.
+1. I'm an MB who fortunately didn't discover DCUM until we moved here a year ago. Prior to that we had some wonderful nannies so I knew they existed. If I was looking to hire a nanny for the first time DCUM would not have done the nannies any favors because besides being concerned about the quality of nannies I would have gone into the whole process completely jaded by the attitudes I've seen on here. I'm sure the same is true for 1st time nannies who don't know DCUM MBs are not the norm either.
