Here's a thread about nannies and mobile phones.

Basically all the posters thinks that as long as the nanny is doing her job well, the kids are cared for and attended to, any kind of fussing about cell phone presence is petty nitpicking crap that will scare off the professional nannies (who expect to be treated like adults). We don't get to walk away from our job for 10 minutes, we don't get to talk to other adults during the day, and we do have to be prepared to accept and reply to texts from our employers.

I would expect to be approached something like this, but better worded: "Nanny, we are so excited to be hiring you. We expect you to have your phone available at all times as we don't have a landline/we might need to call/we'd like you to take pictures of your days, but also to limit your texting and talking to essential conversations - or to make your calls during naptime. We don't plan to spy on you or make a big fuss out of you sending texts to your friends now and again, we just wanted to give some general guidelines. We trust you as a professional adult to decide specifically, day-to-day, what's appropriate and know that your professional focus will be our DC."[/quote]
