The nanny posts here come across as very entitled and demand more money than most families can pay. And families paying $25+ per hour expect a lot more education and English fluency. So there is probably a smaller subset of families who feel they can comfortably hire a nanny. Add to that so many nanny candidates that want to be paid under the table, and there aren’t going to be as many employers.
I'm the poster above who has mom friends whose max was $20/hr. I'm in total agreement with you. The pool just gets smaller and smaller and when you pay $25/hr the expectations are higher -- we interviewed many nanny candidates who demanded a higher rate but had never made baby food or knew what was happening (activity wise) in neighborhoods they claimed to previously have worked in. I got the sense that they knew rates had risen bc of covid-related demand but did not have the skills corresponding with the rate. The nannies are also super anti-daycare on this board, but the reality is that most working parents cannot afford to employ an individual for 40+ hours a week. Working parents don't have options in this country and there is so little support for those in less flexible and lower wage jobs. It's really sad and I wish we could do better.
