What bothers me about being filmed is who else has full access to this footage? I wonder if my bosses would show it to their friends and family members without telling me about it or maybe they didn't even feel the need to tell me about it and that would not sit well with me. Because once you are captured on celluloid, it is permanent. Not that you are doing anything illicit, but still...You are on film and there is tangible footage of you for God knows who to watch. Maybe your boss's husband or his friends or whoever watches you and masturbates at just your image...??! How can you ever be sure?? And where does the liability factor weigh in here??
Yikes. What if the father catches you changing your top after his child vomits on you? Put in the contract the parents will be held accountable for any inappropriate use of video recordings of you. There have been local news reports of the father employers watching the au pairs undress every night on the video. One au pair found the camera, ripped it out and took it straight to the police station...
What a sick sick man that Father was!! And that is how having cameras inevitably open up a can of worms! I personally feel that cameras are voyeuristic + creepy in general. I think in the majority of cases - parents tend to use them as a power tool. They have the power at any random moment to peek in & take a look w/out their Nanny knowing. The fact that they can do this so easily makes most parents feel completely in charge. I could never be okay watching someone w/out that person knowing exactly when I am watching them. That is just very creepy to me. And if a parent truly misses their child while at work they can either A.) Quit their job or instead work part-time in order to have more time w/their child and B.) Ask the Nanny to send photos/videos during the day. Plus most of all > TRUST in your child. Look at your child’s reaction when the Nanny arrives. If a Nanny is abusing a child, then the child’s reaction will tell you how he/she feels about the Nanny. Of course, this would be after the child gets to know their Nanny which shouldn’t be more than two weeks. Cameras are just not necessary if you have trust. Which apparently many parents seem to lack. Bottom line: If you do not FULLY 1000% trust your child’s caregiver then you should not be employed. Or if you have to work to pay the bills, wait until you have enough saved where you can take a few years off and raise your child.
