Both of you behaved quite unprofessionally. Probably that was true for some time before this last straw finally broke your back. Hope your next profession is the right fit for you OP. It's pretty rare that you get to burn a bridge the way you did without having any repercussions so that's lucky. (And fun also - who gets to behave that way?! IT's the stuff we just dream about.)
MB here. What else was OP supposed to do? I don’t see her behavior as unprofessional but I could be wrong. What should she have done better?
I'm not the PP but talking back to MB in a nasty way and calling her selfish wasn't terribly professional of OP. Don't get me wrong, I am team OP all the way. But a simple "I am not interested in returning, good luck with your search" would have sufficed. I imagine it must have felt good to talk back to someone who mistreated and disrespected her for years. But is it professional behavior? Nah.
The job was finished and OP isn’t looking for a reference. There was no need to be “professional” anymore. When you treat people like crap you should be called out. Op didn’t owe her former employer anything but the truth. Hopefully her former employer will take the directness of Op and treat her next employer with more respect.
