Why do you have a nanny that you obviously cannot afford?[b]  You get a raise every year[/b]--Do not bother to deny--time is money and a nanny deserves a salary increase every year at a minimum 1.00/hr for COL!

FWIW many, many people do not get raises every year. I've had two in the past 10 years (plus a third where I moved to a new role at a higher salary, which doesn't count). DH works in the public sector so got COL raises each year, and we did offer the same to our nanny.

$1/hour is not a COL raise, though. It is based on the percent increase in cost of living, so it varies based on the salary the nanny is getting in the first place. It's generally in the 2% vicinity, though, so you'd rarely see a $1/hour raise unless you were extraordinarily highly paid. I think ours were usually ~50 cents per hour, and some years that was higher than the official cost of living increase but we rounded up for simplicity.[/quote]
