Many of these company owners are shysters with their deceptive magic "formulas" they recommend to their parent employer clients. They apparently think nannies are stupid andd can't do simple math. I had an employer who suggested using one of them.

No, many professional nannies are paid a weekly gross amount, it makes the w-2 filing easier too. each year it increases 3-5%. They don't even think about per hour whatever. But if they had to answer that question and worked over 40 hours a week, they'd apply that formula. [/quote]

OK, let's be honest.

Our nanny started with our twins 14 years ago at $600/week, then third child at $650/week, then all were in various forms of preschool and she took on more housekeeping/driving duties for $800/week and this continued for the next 9 years with 3%-5% wage increases, great benefits and various vacations. She grew with our family and adapted to our changing needs.

She receives W-2s and doesn't care about the "hourly" wages.  She does her duties, is at our Bethesda house when the children are, and gets them to/from where they need to be.  I don't care if she shows up at our house at 9am when they're at school to put in the groceries or 2pm when they show up. She does her job and she does it well. Just last week she took two of the kids to their 14 yo check-ups during the weekday.

No one's stupid here, if you want to be a long-term professional nanny, earn the trust of the family continuously and be willing to grow with the family.  She currently makes $59,210 per year gross, and judging by next week's schedule she will probably do 20 hours of work with the 14 and 13 yos (pickups, sports, errands), some gardening, some house tidying and some grocery shopping. I may have her pick up a pizza too.

I guess she will make $57/hour next week. Satisfied now?  She gets my list of what needs to be done (and knows what always needs to be completed) and manages her time herself to get it done. She's as fantastic with the high schoolers as she was when they were toddlers.  And truly a part of our family. [/quote]
