Long probation periods are just another term for "shopping around."  No dual income family wants a fickle contract and to revisit this every month or two. You either work together to provide childcare or you take the other approach...[/quote]

This is exactly why I offer my nanny $25/hr, even if she came in asking for less. I just don't want to deal with the poaching and other games and have a nanny bond with my children just to leave. I had one nanny from when my first son was turning 1 until sometime during his year of K and I a second nanny with the new baby now for 3 years and hope to keep her many more.[/quote]

Anyway, OP, why did you even post here?  it sounds like you know what you intend to do.  while i think it's not that much more money--how many hrs a week?  if it's just 40 then it's 40 x 52 which is $2080.  after taxes it's about $1800.

On the other hand it sounds like you like the other people better and it's a very convenient commute.  so, you're right to think it's better to resign as soon as possible.  does family 1 know you're leaving for grad school next year anyway?  i have 2 kids and would prefer to have someone who would be able to stay with us for a while.  current nanny is w/ us almost 4 years now.  if we could afford it we'd keep her until youngest was in kindergarten.[/quote]
