Thank you, OP, for your post. I wonder if nannies realize that lots of parents are not working only 40 hrs per week. I come home, cook dinner, put kids to bed, and then turn computer and work. Yes, work... Two nights ago I went to bed at 3:30 am only to see DH still working on his work in the office... He went to bed at 4 am... And no, dishes were not done on that night... I do get kitchen cleaned up 90% of time... So please, perfect nannies, hold your judgement... You have no idea what goes on after you leave. And guess what happens if after my hard work I get a nice bonus? I give bonus/raise to the nanny :)
I posted on the first page but it has essentially been ignored. Many nannies, including myself, have children of our own, have second jobs, or are also students. This idea that every nanny goes home to put her feet up is just as bad as the one you are arguing against. I work constantly, go to school, take care of my family, and I dont have a housekeeper to clean for me. I can say with certainty that I do more and do it better than my employers. They may have a few extra hours of work to do in the evening, but their dinner is prepared, their house is clean, and their kid is bathed and ready for bed. Yet, when I arrive in the morning they haven't managed to clean up after themselves for the few hours they were alone with their kid. Yes they are lazy, and yes I do judge them. If you think you aren't, why do you give a shit what some anonymous nanny says? Only you know if you're a slacker.
