I don't mind a nanny making what I make. My problem is every post on here ends with people telling either 1) a low skill nanny with no experience that she has to charge $18 an hour or she is being taken advantage of (and then she can't find a job because that is unrealistic) or 2) a future MB being scared away from hiring a nanny because she has two kids and this board tells her she has to pay $19 an hour and provide full benefits.
1. I've never seen that happen on this board. I have seen newer nannies ask compensation questions and be told that she has to start at the lower end of the pay scale until she has been in the field for a while. 2. The only times (aside from the person who suggests a $25-$35/hour range) I have ever seen a nanny suggest a higher hourly rate and benefits to a parent is when an MB is seeking out a highly skilled or longterm nanny. She is always told that a higher hourly rate and full benefits (which are standard for a full-time nanny) will attract the caliber of candidate she seeks.
