You think she should just leave your kids alone or drive them to the local police station (like they do in daycares), and let you get charged with neglect? You think a nanny needs to be perpetually on call, until you determine that you've got all your shopping done? No. If you think you MIGHT be late on any given day, you ASK the nanny in advance if she is available to work late that day. She may very well have other commitments and obligations. Or she may be happy to cover for you, especially when you offer to double her regular hourly rates. I know daycares where you pay a dollar a minute for being late. Nannies should have late fees to. It is certainly not HER job to tell you everytime you are not allowed to be late. You need to be responsible here. In the case of the best paid nannies, this is a nonissue.
