I'm a nanny who finds it a bit annoying and baffling when I meet foreign nannies who barely speak English. They can't even respond to Hi, how are you? I work in Del Ray, Alexandria and have yet to meet another american born nanny. Where are you???
A friend of mine works in that area a) they might think you're the MB, so they ignore you. b) they pretend to not know English so they don't have to talk to you (partially because of point a) c) they genuinely don't speak English. It's actually funny. My friend speaks some Spanish, and she's heard the nannies talking about her, discussing whether she's a mom or a nanny behind her back.
