I think it's funny that all these nannies are trying to explain how MBs think to MBs. I get what you are saying - but let's assume an MB (every MB from the way you describe it) feels as angry and betrayed as you say. Even then, it literally makes no sense to act on it unless the nanny is otherwise demonstrating she's not trustworthy. If I reacted first and thought later every time anyone made me angry and upset, I'd have a pretty difficult life. Are there some impetuous and angry MBs? Of course. Do MBs as a group immediately feel hurt and betrayed should an employee dare to seek other employment AND all act immediately to fire the nanny without having other childcare lined up (possibly at the expense of their own jobs, which they still have to go to)? That defies logic. But if you all think your MBs are so out of touch with rationality that they will behave in this way, that probably comes through in your negative attitudes towards them, so that by the time you give notice, they may already be questioning how trustworthy you are with their kids ... Now I do agree, as one PP pointed out, that if a nanny gives a lot of notice and the MB finds a replacement who needs to start immediately or will take another offer, that nannies will be asked to leave early. It's not nice but I believe it happens. Then again, it happens in reverse when the family gives notice as well but the nanny finds a new job that starts before the specified end date. As much as it sucks, it would be unreasonable in both instances to ask the noticee to do otherwise.
Exactly. Not one MB on this thread is saying this never happens. The issue is that it doesn't happen nearly as often as nannies here seem to think.
