1. You don't get the flu from a flu shot. Correlation does not equal causation. Many people can't distinguish between the flu and a cold. Its likely that many of you who are convinced that you got the flu from the flu shot actually ended up with something viral not the flu.

2. As an adult, you are doing far more harmful things to your body and increasing your chances of developing a terminal illness later in life by eating fast food, not exercising, or other common things than getting a flu shot. You take far more risks in your daily life and the scientific evidence really does show that a flu shot is very low risk. You have a higher risk of experiencing complications from having the flu than complications from the vaccine. Avoiding the flu and other respiratory diseases, reduces your risk of more likely chronic disorders long term.

3. It is important for childcare providers of children with health conditions to get vaccinated. This isn't a conspiracy from big pharma. The AAP is not out to get you or sell shots.

4. The fact that the flu shot is not 100% is even more reason not less as to why childcare providers should have the vaccine. Vaccines are never 100% effective in the entire population. Herd immunity protects those for which the vaccine is less effective. This means vaccinating you can protect the child for whom it is less effective.

5. Any nanny who doesn't understand this should visit a NICU and see the infants and toddlers hospitalized for flu. Its eye opening.
