OP here. I made it to my new host family's ! The mother has taken a few days off to help me find my way around etc, I will start on my own on Monday. Cambridge is a very nice place, I'm 5 minutes away from the subway to go downtown Boston. The family is very nice, we seem to get along great! The little girls are sweet and I feel very welcome. We talked about the rematch process, they told me their Au Pair was always locked in her room or out whenever she was off and that they wanted a big sister kind of au pair, someone that will share meals with them, do activities for them etc. The au pair didn't open her door when the girls would knock on her time off, which I find very odd !! They told me that if they had wanted a sitter they would have hired one but that this is not what they're looking for. They were surprised I was let on my own at home by my former host parents after only a few weeks there and didn't feel it was nice from them. They have planned a few vacations and plan on taking me with them :) Anyways, I'm trying to settle down, I am already looking for classes nearby that will fit the family's $$ and the agency requirements. 4 Au Pairs have called me to introduce themselves to me, which I was very happy :) I'm meeting a few girls on Friday evening for dinner at a place called the "house of blues", very excited!! About my former host family, leaving was emotional for all of us. They were upset that I was the 1st au pair not wanting to stay with them the whole year ... I gave the kid a present and he was sadder than I would have imagined. I asked him not to kick his next au pair and to be nice to her but not sure that'll happen lol The father took me to my counselor's house and I thanked him for everything and we said goodbye. The mother didn't talk to me (but again she barely did when I was living there) but she left a note on my desk the last morning, wishing me luck in my new family and being sorry it didn't work out. I talked to the father about how I got upset that they wanted to let me alone at their house while they were in Mexico, he kindly told me that they didn't even consider taking me there and didn't realize that I'd be upset. Had they known, they would have thought about it over and asked me if I wanted to come, but really, they just didn't think about taking me, probably thinking I'd be bored to be with them and would prefer some extra time off at home. He also told me that they would have bought a tv set for me if I had asked ... Well, I'm surprised that none of their 6 former au pairs had asked for it honestly. But besides the missed trip, I know I wouldn't have been able to deal with the non talking mom, the not disciplined kid, not being able to drive more on my time off. It was too much to bear for a full year for me. We parted ways amicably and I wish them well. I wanted to keep you updated on my post, thank you everybody for your messages and for those who don't believe me or who think I'm spoiled or demanding, I can only tell you one thing, this is my life and I have to do what's best for me.
